Psychiatric consultation and treatment
During a psychiatric consultation, the psychiatrist will assess your mental health and the occurrence of any psychiatric and mood disorders, prescribe treatment, if necessary, and monitor any changes in your condition. Based on your symptoms and diagnosis, the psychiatrist will plan your treatment and monitor its appropriateness and efficiency. The use of medication is voluntary. If necessary, a psychologist or another specialist will be involved.
Common reasons why people seek help from psychiatrists are mood disorders such as depression or bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders such as generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, but also compulsive disorders (obsessive-compulsive disorder), sleep and eating disorders, various addictions, psychotic and personality disorders.
A psychiatrist’s appointment is definitely nothing to be frightened of and not worth postponing for no justified reason because timely treatment may help prevent aggravation of the condition and avoid any resulting social and coping issues. With milder mental health issues or stress, it might be practical to first contact your general practitioner or a psychologist.
The first appointment with the psychiatrist will take up to 60 minutes.
Repeat visits are for patients who have already been to a psychiatrist at the Individualised Medicine Centre of Christinas Clinic.
